Carondelet Health Network welcomed Alan Strauss, formerly Chief Financial Officer at St. Thomas Health in Nashville, Tenn., as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer earlier this month. Mr. Strauss stepped into his new role, joining the Network’s executive team, on April 30, 2012.
Strauss spent the last six years as Chief Financial Officer for St. Thomas Health, a five-hospital system and a fellow member of Ascension Health, Carondelet’s parent ministry and the largest not-for-profit, Catholic Healthcare system in the U.S.
In his role with St. Thomas, Strauss was responsible for dramatic revenue growth and financial recovery, moving that system from a loss of $5 million to a three-year profit of $110 million. He was also instrumental in the development of several successful joint venture partnerships. Strauss brings to Carondelet a proven track record of strategic financial leadership and significant experience working with the complex challenges faced by similar Catholic healthcare ministries.
Prior to joining St. Thomas Health, Strauss was with Tatum Partners in Los Angeles, a firm providing financial leadership services to companies nationwide. Strauss also worked as Interim Chief Financial Officer at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, N.J. in 2005 and as Chief Financial Officer and Operations Leader at St. John’s Hospital and Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif. from 1990-2004. Alan has a Master of Science, Health Care Administration, from the University of Saint Francis in Joliet, Ill., and a Bachelor of Business Administration from City University of New York (CUNY), Baruch College.
