Christen “Chris” Castellano joined Carondelet Health Network this month as Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer. Castellano’s responsibilities include developing and implementing programs that achieve Carondelet’s strategic objectives toward future growth and expansion. She will also have leadership oversight of Carondelet Medical Group, and Carondelet Specialist Group, the Network’s primary and specialty care practices.
Castellano brings over 25 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience to Carondelet -- experience she achieved here in the Tucson community. From 2002 to 2012, Castellano served as the Chief Operations Officer for the Steele Children’s Research Center and as the Chief Administrator for Pediatrics at The University of Arizona Health Network. While in this role, she was responsible for leading the strategic development and growth of more than 25 pediatric sites for both primary and subspecialty care throughout Southern Arizona. Additionally, Castellano directed and managed the operating budgets for more than 150 pediatric faculty and resident physicians.
“Ms. Castellano will be an invaluable addition to the Carondelet leadership team,” said Jim Beckmann, President and CEO of Carondelet Health Network. “She brings tremendous experience and enthusiasm to our family and she has already embraced our Ministry’s mission to meet the community’s needs in new and innovative ways, provide access to excellent care, and continue our 132-year legacy of service to the people of Tucson and Southern Arizona.”
“The current complexities in the healthcare ‘ecosystem’ create bold and exciting new opportunities for all of us,” added Castellano. “The immense dedication of our Carondelet team members who are so deeply committed to our purpose and vision is inspirational. I am thrilled to be at Carondelet as we confront the community’s expanding and ever-changing health and wellness needs.”
Prior to working at The University of Arizona Health Network, Castellano was Anesthesiology Department Administrator at University Medical Center from 1996 to 2002 and served in several other management roles within UA’s healthcare system. With these varied experiences, Castellano brings a unique blend of operational and business development skills to the position.
Castellano has an impressive record of local and national speaking engagements that include being an invited speaker at the National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute in 2010 and 2011. She has a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Arizona, and a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
