Children can play and create in an area they can call their own

TUCSON, Ariz. - (Nov. 16, 2010) - There's a wonderful new place for kids to just be kids at Carondelet St. Mary's Hospital: the Kids' Corner was officially dedicated and blessed today.

Children visiting loved ones at Carondelet St. Mary's have a place to play, laugh, create and color. The Kids' Corner includes small tables and chairs, rubber floor tiles, wall-mounted activity boards, games, and art supplies.

“Our Kids’ Corner is a one more step in enhancing the patient care experience at St. Mary’s, not only for patients, but for the families and friends who come to visit our patients,” said Winnie Fritz, Chief Executive Officer at Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital. “The Kids Corner occupies one of our seven garden spaces and offers a protected outdoor space for quiet children’s activities. With children having a place to be entertained, our adult patients can rest in a quieter environment; and adults can spend quality time talking about health decisions and personal matters.”

Kids’ Corner, located on the Third Floor near the public elevators, is the second in a series of healing garden renovations at Carondelet St. Mary’s. These healing gardens are designed to create an enhanced healing environment throughout the hospital.

The Kids’ Corner was made possible by generous funding from the St. Mary’s Auxilians and Carondelet Foundation.
Several of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet attended the dedication and Sr. Irma Odabashian performed the blessing of the Kids’ Corner.

Hospital volunteers will occasionally staff the Kids’ Corner, which is open during hospital visiting hours, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., but children must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older.
