Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital Welcomes New Chief Executive Officer
Dorothy L. Sawyer, MN, FACHE, joined Carondelet Health Network as Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer for Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital, effective November 7, 2011. Ms. Sawyer assumes the role of CEO of Carondelet’s west side hospital from outgoing CEO Winnie Fritz.

Ms. Sawyer brings three decades of rich healthcare leadership experience and business development achievements in a variety of markets and healthcare settings. Most recently, she worked with IASIS Healthcare as both Market President and Chief Executive Officer of Physician Group of Arizona.

Some of Ms. Sawyer’s other healthcare roles have included serving as Chief Executive Officer for Havasu Regional Medical Center, a 181-bed, acute care hospital with free-standing ambulatory surgery center (2004-2008). She was also Chief Executive Officer for Phoenix’s Maryvale Hospital, a 239-bed acute-care facility (2000-2004). From 1988 through 1992, Ms. Sawyer served the Tucson community’s healthcare needs as Chief Nursing Officer at Northwest Medical Center and Director of Quality for the former El Dorado Hospital and Medical Center. Her career has also included service in Aurora, Colo. and Spokane, Wash. Dorothy’s education includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Nursing from Eastern Washington University, followed by an Executive Graduate Fellowship in Health Care Administration from the University of Houston, Clearlake.

Dorothy has led many successful initiatives that focused on quality of care, improving employee and patient satisfaction, building physician relationships and strategic planning for multiple facilities and service lines.
She succeeds Winnie Fritz, MSN, EdD, who is retiring from her role at St. Mary’s, effective November 11.
