CARONDELET JOINT REPLACEMENT CENTER – SERVICES
The Carondelet Joint Replacement Center provides a beginning-to-end, coordinated care program for joint replacement of the hips, knees, ankles and shoulders. Our utmost concern is to minimize the pain, restore the functionality, and improve the lives of our patients.
You’ll find the Center on the fourth floor of St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Medical Pavilion in a dedicated orthopedic unit with private rooms and staff specially trained in the treatment of joint replacement patients.
SPECIALTY TRAINED STAFF AND MEDICAL TEAM
Overseeing your care is our team of registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists each, as we mentioned above, with specialized training.
ON-SITE REHABILITATION AND CUSTOMIZED FOLLOW-UP CARE
Patients who meet specific criteria and receive their surgeon’s recommendation will have a physical therapy assessment the day of their surgery. Others may receive therapy in our on-site pool (again dependent on some insurance and medical criteria).
We actively encourage our patients, and their families or caregivers, participate in the planning of their surgery, as well as their follow-up treatment and rehabilitation.
Prior to your procedure, you will be asked to attend a 1 ½-hour educational class, “Joint Camp.” During this time, you will be able to ask questions of the same staff you will see throughout your surgery and recovery period while learning how to prepare for and after your joint replacement. The class is hosted by the Joint Replacement Center’s Program Coordinator and involves instruction and demonstrations of rehabilitation equipment and follow-up care by occupational and physical therapists.
For more information on Joint Camp times or to register for an upcoming class,
call 873-MOVE (6683).
As with Joint Camp, we advise patients to schedule a medical screening at the CARE Clinic before their surgery. CARE, short for Comprehensive Anesthesia Risk Evaluation, Clinic is offered on the campus of St. Joseph’s Hospital, where you will be screened for any pre-surgical medical needs.
Should the licensed nurse practitioner identify any concerns or issues, they will work with your physician, surgical team and anesthesiologists to develop a course of action.
We especially encourage the clinic for anyone with existing health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or if you’ve experienced negative reactions to anesthesia in the past.
