Telephone and Telephone Equipment for the Hearing Impaired
Volume-controlled, amplified telephones are available for our hearing- impaired patients. Special Telephone Devices for the Deaf (TDDs) are available at no charge. All patient phones have a flashing Ring Indicator. Please inform your nurse, hospital operator, or the Admitting Department when admitted if you have a need for specialized telephone equipment. TDD/TTY phone and amplifiers can be obtained by contacting a hospital Associate. Closed-caption TV for hearing/speech-impaired patients can be obtained by contacting a hospital Associate.
Visually Impaired
Contact the charge nurse to arrange for a Big Button phone with the following features: large buttons for easy visibility and dialing and Braille characters on each number for the visually impaired.
Language Interpretation
If needed, complimentary language interpretation phone services can be arranged through the nurse on your unit.
Interpreters
Language translators and interpreters for visually, hearing and speech impaired patients are available. We also utilize language interpretation phones. It is a telephone with two receivers, one for each party to speak through an interpreter. The system offers translators in 171 languages, including many Native American languages.
