The da Vinci Surgical System combines robotics and surgical technology resulting in the least invasive treatment option available.
As an alternative to both open surgery and laparoscopic surgery, robotically assisted surgery provides patients with the most precise, least invasive surgical solution – ensuring less pain, shorter recovery times, and a faster return to your everyday life.
The da Vinci® S™ Surgical System was named after Leonardo da Vinci, Italian artist, engineer and scientist. To date, da Vinci technology has been used to treat a broad range of complex conditions – from urologic conditions such as prostate cancer, to gynecologic conditions, obesity and heart disease.
Surgeons trained in the da Vinci technology make tiny incisions and use pencil-thin instruments and cameras. Robotic instruments give the surgeon natural eye-hand coordination, and offer a three-dimensional view and depth perception of the operating area.
The system performs safety checks over 1300 times per second, helping to ensure a fail-safe operation for patient well-being.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared the da Vinci® S™ Surgical System for a wide range of procedures.
