Carondelet hospitals receive top ranking in Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2018 national safety study

TUCSON (April 24, 2018) – The Spring 2018 hospital safety report card from The Leapfrog Group awarded an “A” grade to Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital while Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital maintains its grade of “A” from the Fall, making Carondelet the only facilities in Tucson achieving an A grade, according to Leapfrog.

Hospital quality and patient safety grades provide consumers with information they may find useful in making informed decisions about their healthcare. Carondelet St. Mary’s and Carondelet St. Joseph’s hospitals were awarded an ‘A’ for efforts in protecting patients and meeting high safety standards.

Grades on hospital performance are based on specific process and outcome measures assessed by Leapfrog, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. Hospital Safety Grades are updated every spring and fall following assessments of more than 2,500 hospitals across the country.

“We are pleased to see St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s hospitals achieve the only A grades in Tucson. Everyone at Carondelet works hard to deliver excellent care. It validates our drive for continuous improvement and is gratifying to see the efforts of our employees and physicians recognized for high performance in clinical care and patient satisfaction,” said Mark Benz, CEO of Carondelet Health Network.

Developed with the guidance of an expert panel, the peer-reviewed Leapfrog grades are based on 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data.
