Knee Replacement Surgery

Carondelet Health Network is proud to offer minimally invasive procedures including robotic-assisted total and partial knee replacements. Our surgeons are trained in performing complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions and with incredible precision, less pain and scarring, fewer complications, reduced risk of infection and quicker recovery time.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

For patients suffering from knee pain and damage from arthritis or injury, there is a minimally invasive form of surgery that can reduce risks and minimize scarring. Unlike the standard surgery in which a long incision is made and the knee is opened up for surgery, the minimally invasive method uses smaller incisions. The surgeon uses specialized tools, in conjunction with x-rays or other imaging, to perform the joint removal and replacement.

Minimally invasive surgery can result in fewer complications, quicker recover time, lower risk of infection, smaller incisions, shorter hospital stay, and more.

Robotic Surgery

Robotic assisted surgery enables total and partial knee replacements that can result in a return to daily activity and decrease in pain. Partial knee replacement may offer several benefits over total knee replacement:

  • Less pain
  • Quicker rehabilitation
  • Smaller incisions
  • Preserves ACL and PCL
  • Less bone loss
  • Less scarring
  • Reduced blood loss

Robotic-assisted technologies for knee replacement include the Navio Surgical System, and the MAKO surgical system, currently offered at Carondelet Health Network.

Navio Surgical System - features proprietary robotics-assisted technology that integrates handheld robotics with an intuitive CT-free registration and patient-specific planning process for knee replacements. The NAVIO software applications guide the surgeon in creating implant plans that localize components and balance soft-tissue, and use handheld instrumentation uses multiple control modes to help the surgeon precisely prepare the bone for implantation. Your surgeon will determine if you are a good candidate for a NAVIO procedure.

MAKO - is a robotic-arm assisted technology that is an innovative solution for many suffering from painful arthritis of the knee or hip. It uses a 3D virtual model of your unique anatomy and a robotic are, MAKO helps the surgeon plan and perform your joint replacement surgery. The MAKO allows for accurate placement of the hip implant which can reduce the likelihood of hip dislocation. It is more consistent in leg length. It can potentially decrease the need for a shoe lift. And it is a decreased risk of implant and bone abnormally running together. Your surgeon will determine if you are a good candidate for the MAKO procedure.
