Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital Introduces New Technology to Improve Heart Rhythm Care

Thu June 04, 2026

Tucson — Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital is expanding its heart care services with the addition of the Opal HDx Mapping System, a new technology designed to help physicians better detect and treat irregular heart rhythms.

This advanced system gives the hospital’s cardiac team a clearer picture of how the heart is beating, helping them identify heart rhythm problems more quickly and treat them with greater precision. For patients, that means more personalized care and a smoother treatment experience.

“Irregular heart rhythms can be difficult to diagnose and treat, but this technology allows us to see what’s happening inside the heart in real time,” said Dr. Aadhavi Sridharan. “It helps us care for our patients more effectively and get them back to feeling like themselves again.”

Heart rhythm conditions, such as atrial fibrillation, can cause symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, or heart palpitations—and may increase the risk of stroke if left untreated. With the Opal EP system, physicians can perform minimally invasive procedures that often require less recovery time compared to traditional surgery.

For patients, the benefits may include:

  • Faster, more accurate diagnosis of heart rhythm issues
  • Less invasive treatment options
  • Shorter recovery times
  • Care close to home in Tucson

“The addition of this technology reflects our continued commitment to bringing advanced care to our community,” said Jennifer Opsut, CEO St. Mary’s Hospital. “Patients in Southern Arizona can feel confident they are receiving high-quality heart care right here at Carondelet St. Mary’s.”

Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital remains dedicated to investing in innovative tools and expert care teams to meet the growing needs of the Tucson community.
